The Old Split-Grades Malarkey
Now a thing of the past...
In the lead-up to the 2009 derby, we devised a better system and now we no longer need (or want!) to faff about numbering the trolleys. Instead, it's now first in, first served
Numbers are allocated by the registrations coordinator
In an attempt to create some sense of order, we devised a simple system - that seems to work:
- Odd numbered trolleys
- will race in odd numbered heats
- Even numbered trolleys
- will race in even numbered heats
For this reason, numbers are only allocated after registrations have closed and, even then, there will (probably) be some last-minute juggling (due to no-shows, scrutineering failures, etc) in order to ensure that the heats in each grade are equally full
If you really, really, really do have a preferred number, then let us know when your register
If you have already painted your trolley with a number, be sure to let us know (in the 'Futher Information' section on the next page) and we will do our best to make sure that your number doesn't change
No Guarantees
We can't guarantee that your trolley will be assigned and/or keep the number you want - but we will do our level best to accommodate your wishes
Be Prepared for Last-Minute Changes
We can't promise that your number won't change, even at the very last minute
If/when we do have to make a last-minute change, there will be a pile of paper (recycled, of course!), a thick felt pen and some sticky tape at the registrations desk first thing in the morning (and, later, at the results desk on the finish line)
If you can think of a better system, please do let us know long before or shortly after the event, preferably not in the fortnight leading up to derby day and definitely not on derby day!
