Scrutineering
Click to enlarge All drivers and trolleys in the Zoomers, Sprinters, Rockets and the Bunnings Monarchs report to the starting grid at the top of the course, just below the Brougham Street intersection
There will be a photographer at 'the starting grid' to get photos of ALL trolleys that pass scrutineering
Trolleys that are entered only in the Nippers do not need to turn up until 12:55Get Stickered, Go Racing
In order to enter the derby, each trolley MUST display an official sticker, which will only be issued when:- your trolley and driver combination has been checked by the team from the Hot Rod Club as 'fit to race'
- your trolley has clearly visible numbersNumbers that are as big as a 2-litre ice-cream container lid are recommended on, at least, the left and rear sides - as stipulated in the Rules & Regulations
- a photo of your trolleyfor those without a camera, a photographer will be at 'the starting grid' has been uploaded to the registered trolleys page
Don't be late
There has always been a 'waiting list' for places in the heats - so... if you're not stickered by 09:00, your place might be given to someone else - 10:15
-
Drivers Meeting
All drivers (and a parent/guardian of ANY driver under 16) must attendLocation
Just down from 'the starting grid'Agenda
- Safety first
- How to help
- Where to get help
- Zoomers to get their run(s) in early and Rockets last
- Other stuff - TBA
- 10:30
-
Grudge Racing
An opportunity to really test your trolley - and your confidence - before the racing starts
Find a friend (or a foe!) and line up for a head-to-head run down the hill
If everyone does their best to keep things in some sort of order, each trolley should get at least two runs - 11:00
-
Heats
The best 12 times in each grade in the heats go through to semisPlan A
As the the aim is for each trolley race to race in four heats in 90 minutes and the width of the street limits each race to a maximum of six trolleys, each of the three grades has a maximum of 24 trolleys and we aim to have 48 heats in 90 minutesHeat 1 Heat 2 Heat 3 Heat 4 Six trolleys per heat 11:00 11:20 11:40 12:00 Zoomers (Z1a) (Z2a) (Z3a) (Z4a) (Z1b) (Z2b) (Z3b) (Z4b) (Z1c) (Z2c) (Z3c) (Z4c) (Z1d) (Z2d) (Z3d) (Z4d) Sprinters (S1a) (S2a) (S3a) (S4a) (S1b) (S2b) (S3b) (S4b) (S1c) (S2c) (S3c) (S4c) (S1d) (S2d) (S3d) (S4d) Rockets (R1a) (R2a) (R3a) (R4a) (R1b) (R2b) (R3b) (R4b) (R1c) (R2c) (R3c) (R4c) (R1d) (R2d) (R3d) (R4d) Meanwhile, back in the real world...
As the track (including the run-off zone after the finish line) must be clear for each race, aiming to run 48 heats in 90 minutes is rather optimistic... it can be done... at least in theory...
However, it is highly probable that, especially in the first few heats, there will be quite a few crashes and clearing the track can (will?) take a l o n g t i m ePlan B
If we get behind, the number of heats will be reduced from four to three per trolley.
The first to suffer will be the Rockets, then the Sprinters and lastly the Zoomers, so there is an incentive for those most able to help the marshalls, the shuttle drivers, the pit-crew and any of the volunteers who help make the day go as smoothly as possible - 12:30
-
Lunch
Click to enlarge We have half an hour set aside in the middle of the derby, just in case we're running a bit late
This will be a good time to return to your trolley and make sure you're all set for the semis
Working Towards Zero Waste
There will be food and drink vendors and Zero Waste lounges with compost bins in both Bronte and Manuka streetsSeeding the Semis
Semi 1: 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th fastest trolleys in each grade from the heats
Semi 2: 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th fastest trolleys in each grade from the heats - 12:55
-
Nippers Meeting - 202 Collingwood Street
To make what will probably be a long, hot day a bit easier for the really young drivers,a Nippers Meeting (including scrutineeering) will be held at 12:55pm (instead of 08:30am) on the forecourt area in front of 202 Collingwood Street - on the left hand side when heading downhill, a few doors down from the Bronte Street intersection

Bring your trolley and your Nipper along and meet the other parents/guardians/etc and decide for yourselves how the Nippers section will run
If your Nippers trolley is in the Zoomers, Sprinters or Rockets Semis
Come to the meeting, tell us and we'll organise getting the trolley to the Nippers start line.Common Sense Rules
We know that there's a huge difference between a two-year-old and a six-year-old, yet they're all in the same grade...
So... if some of you want your kids to start from just a few metres above the finish line and others want to start higher up - then fine!
Fingers crossed!
Have fun! - 13:00
