Drivers Meeting Notes - 2011 Collingwood Street Trolley Derby

ROAD CLOSURE:
Collingwood Street will be opened to vehicles in the event of an emergency

FAIR PLAY
For all races we expect all drivers to abide by and respect the rules, which are really simple:
Trolleys to be held under their own braking power on the start line
Keep your hands and your feet off your wheels
			========================================
If you think you have a cunning plan that bends ANY of the the rules,
			then you are cheating
			========================================
We reserve the right to exclude from the final any trolley we consider
pushing the boundaries of fair play

NO GUARANTEE OF FOUR RUNS PER TROLLEY IN THE HEATS
Time is limited: The heats WILL finish at 12:30

Four heats per grade IS feasible

If we get behind, the number of heats will be reduced
from four to three - or even two - per trolley

The derby is aimed primarily as a fun event... for kids

The first to suffer will be:
			the Baywick's Rockets,
			then the McDonalds Nelson Sprinters
and lastly the SBS Bank Zoomers
So... there is an incentive for the GROWN-UPS to behave like ADULTS and lend a hand

	Many hands make light work

PROGRESSING FROM THE HEATS TO THE SEMIS

Trolleys with the 12 fastest TIMES in the heats of each grade will go to semi finals
	Seeding the Semis
The semis will be seeded so that we have two (pretty much) evenly matched races
			 Semi 1: 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th fastest trolleys
in each grade from the heats

			 Semi 2: 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th fastest trolleys
in each grade from the heats

PROGRESSING FROM THE SEMIS TO THE FINALS
1st, 2nd and 3rd trolley across the line in each semi (i.e. SIX trolleys per grade) will proceed to the Finals

NIPPERS
Trolleys in The Nippers that ALSO:
make it through to the Zoomers, Sprinter or Rockets finals
OR are contenders for the Deep Blue Shoestring Challenge
need to be PUSHED back up the hill ASAP after the Nippers

DEEP BLUE SHOESTRING CHALLENGE
Trolleys in the Shoestring Challenge CAN go in the the Crazy Runs OR the Monarch of the Hill
Straight after the drivers meeting, please register with Turhan if the parts for your trolley cost less than $500 trolleys
and you think it's unlikely to proceed to the finals

MONARCH OF THE HILL
2 pushers, 15 metres start gate
Pushers feet start on up-hill line
Pushers feet must not cross the lower line while they are still touching the trolley.
The next trolley will be released as the trolley before crosses the St Josephs crossing
If you crash, remove your trolley, if possible, over the straw barriers

All trolleys will be left at the bottom of the hill after
		the Crazy Runs
and The Monarch of the Hill
Do not go in the Crazy Runs if you are in the Monarchs:
Your trolley will not come back!!

PRIZE GIVING
During the Running of the Balls set-up, we want as many trolleys as possible to be
angle parked in the gutters above the finish line to create a Concours d'Elegance style setting

TIMING SYSTEM - with Traffic Lights
		Red Means Stop
		Amber means be ready
		Green means GO

GRUDGE RACING
After the drivers meeting, we have until 11am set aside for
grudge racing - you can race against ANYONE in ANY grade

This will be an ideal opportunity to test your brakes and steering
and check out the bumpiness of the road

The Grudge Races will be used as a practice for the new timing system

After crossing the finish line, ride your brakes
so that you come to a gradual stop a metre or so before
(but NOT DIRECTLY in front of) the hay bales

SHUTTLES:
Loading trolleys into the shuttles at the bottom of the hill
Load your own trolley under guidance of the truck driver

Drivers CAN return to the top in the trucks - or you can walk, but don't dawdle!

Before you head back up the hill, make sure you know which truck your trolley is in

Unloading trolleys out of the shuttles at the top of the hill
Help to unload trolleys at the top of the hill

As soon as the truck is unloaded, line up your trolley in the Grid and stay there,
moving a little further down the hill after each and every heat

No parking signs apply to ALL vehicles, including trolley drivers utes,
		cars and trailers, etc

If you are using your own vehicle to shuttle your trolley up the hill,
do NOT obstruct the shuttle trucks

Once at the top of the hill get yourself into the Grid line up

GRID LINE UPS FOR ALL HEATS, SEMIS AND FINALS
	All Zoomers Trolleys
	Then all Sprinters
	Then all Rockets
